From Called to Commissioned: Embracing Your God-Given Assignment
I remember the moment clearly. I was sitting alone with my journal, staring at the words I had written over and over again—I know I’m called, but what now?
For years, I had sensed God pulling me toward something greater. I saw the vision, felt the weight of purpose, and even caught glimpses of how God wanted to use me. But every time I thought I was ready to move, I found myself hesitating, unsure, and—if I’m honest—afraid.
Have you ever felt that way? Like God has called you, but you’re stuck in the in-between—between knowing and doing, between waiting and walking, between called and commissioned?
If so, you’re not alone. This is the refining process every woman of faith goes through before stepping fully into purpose. And I want to help you navigate it.
The Wilderness Season: When God Prepares You
Before God releases you into your next level, He prepares you for it. We often call this the wilderness season—a time of pruning, stretching, and refining.
For me, this season looked like:
Doors closing that I desperately wanted open.
Feeling unseen and overlooked when I thought I was ready.
God stripping away distractions and forcing me to focus.
Learning that obedience is more important than outcomes.
Maybe you’re in that season right now. If so, take heart—God is not punishing you; He is positioning you. He is strengthening your foundation so that when He launches you, you won’t crumble under the weight of the calling.
Steps to Move from Called to Commissioned
So how do you move from waiting to walking? Here are the steps I took—and the same steps you can take to start walking boldly in your purpose:
1. Fully Surrender to God’s Process
When I stopped trying to control how and when God would move, everything shifted. Surrender doesn’t mean giving up—it means giving in to God’s timing and letting Him shape you.
Ask yourself: Have I fully surrendered, or am I still trying to force my own timeline?
2. Identify What’s Holding You Back
Is it fear? Imposter syndrome? The pressure to have everything figured out before you start? Whatever it is, call it out and confront it.
Action Step: Write down the biggest fear that’s keeping you from moving forward. Then, find a scripture that speaks against that fear and declare it over yourself daily.
3. Take a Bold First Step
Clarity doesn’t come from sitting still—it comes from action. Sometimes, God is just waiting for us to move in faith so He can open the next door.
Action Step: What’s one small but bold step you can take this week? Send the email? Start the business? Apply for the opportunity? Do it scared.
4. Surround Yourself with Kingdom-Minded Women
I wouldn’t be where I am today without community—women who spoke life into me, prayed for me, and reminded me that I wasn’t in this alone.
Action Step: Join a faith-driven community (like Evolution of SHE) where you can grow, be encouraged, and walk alongside other women on the same journey.
5. Commit to Growth & Equipping Yourself
Your calling requires preparation. Take time to develop the skills, wisdom, and spiritual strength you’ll need to sustain it.
Action Step: Invest in learning—through Bible studies, mentorship, or leadership development (like The Commissioning Process inside Evolution of SHE!).
Your Time is Now
If you’ve been waiting for a sign, this is it. You don’t have to have all the answers—you just have to have faith.
You are not just called—you are chosen.
You are not just purposed—you are positioned.
And you are not just waiting—you are becoming.
God is commissioning you. Will you say yes?
